Describe the path you took to arrive in your current role.

I attended Purdue University where I majored in interior design. After several roles in interior design and construction, I eventually spent 23 years at a large property group, where I gained experience in space planning, construction management, property management, real estate, supervision, facilities management and more. Six years ago Medxcel was just entering the facilities management business, so I joined the team. I began in a facilities role and the moved the construction division when it was established. In 2023 I accepted the role of Building Performance Standards Manager.

Has Medxcel provided you with training and development opportunities?

The wide variety of training and development opportunities are one of the best things about working at Medxcel. Even with the pandemic putting a temporary end to most live trainings, Medxcel offers a very robust online training system. I went from a Project Manager to Project Manager II in the past year after completing my Certified Healthcare Construction (CHC) certification with the help of Medxcel. Medxcel is extremely supportive of associates achieving degrees and certifications. I’m on a career development plan so that I can advance my career if I want to move further in the project management construction field or even another field within Medxcel. My leader has really encouraged me to pursue any direction I’d like. When we meet, he asks me where I want to go, what I want to do next, and how he can help me achieve those goals. I really appreciate that.

What is the best part of your job?

The best part of my job is working alongside our customer and their staff, making their jobs easier and more efficient. I hate it when I see clinicians having to spend time working on managing projects, handling construction, and doing things that aren’t within their expertise and that take them away from patient care. I don’t want them to waste their valuable education and time doing things that my team and I are trained to do. I love partnering with them, learning about what they need, and then working to make it happen.

Which of Medxcel’s Core Values is most important to you?

Dedication is the Medxcel Core Value that speaks to me the most. To me dedication means doing my job to the best of my ability to better the environment and my surroundings for the people I work for and with. It’s always my goal to leave a project better than when I start it, to make sure everything has been executed correctly, and to continue to own it after the fact and revisit issues if necessary. I want to be able to be proud of the work we do and its positive impact on patients and staff.

Is there a project you’re particularly proud of?

I am privileged to get to partner with our client’s foundation on creating themed rooms for our children’s hospital. I’ve been working with them since I started, and it’s been an impactful part of my work. I’m working with families, donors, sometimes those who have lost a child who was treated at the hospital, and then I get to help with designing and executing themed rooms, to make their vision come to life. It’s so exciting to see the children’s reactions to the fun themed rooms we’ve created. There is nothing more meaningful then putting a big smile on the face of a sick child. Most recently, I am currently working on a new Burn Center that includes a clinic and ICU.  This is a new service with unique challenges.  It is exciting to be a part of this new endeavor that will provide a much-needed resource to our community.
